How Testimony of a Witness Affects the Investigation of Crime Scenes

When investigators finish working a crime scene, then they can start piecing together what may have happened and this signifies that it is time to talk to any witness they may have. Many cases have let investigators apprehend a perpetrator by simply talking to a witness. This increases your chances of solving a crime, especially if the witness has information that coincides with evidence found.

Many courts support testimony from witnesses and allow it to help solve a crime. The courts will make sure that the testimony coincides with evidence found at the crime scene, as it may convict the killer. However, you have to keep in mind that the witness may not be telling the full truth. Today, CSI investigators and experts in the field have found a way in which to use witness testimony to aid them in closing the case and apprehending the perpetrator.

Dissecting Statements and Testimony from Witnesses

Top investigators have come across witnesses before that have seen crimes and have supplied them with testimony. Down through time, investigators have been able to find and perfect a method that lets them detect truthful testimony from a person who has witnessed a crime first hand. Importance of this method is strongly urged, due to any wrongful untruths being took into account and possibly convicting an innocent individual. Other than serving justice to an individual who has taken another person’s life, it is adamant investigators bring closure to the families of the victim and shed light on what really happened.

A witness to a crime, exercises their ability to visualize and translate what happened. Investigators will always try to identify whether a witness is credible or not when hearing testimony. Investigators will assess a witness and determine one of two things, whether or not the witness is telling an untruth or if they maybe truthful, but are confused.

Eyewitness Testimony and Its Validity

CSI’s and others in the field, will only be able to use any clues or evidence that they possess when trying to close a case. Many times, wrongful solving of crime cases can be chalked up to not having enough credible evidence or witnesses. However, many statements given by witnesses remain debatable about their use in crime solving. Many things can alter truthful testimony that is given by a witness to CSI’s.

The Importance Of Memory and Recollection

* The mental onslaught of remembering important details of a crime for most is difficult at best. Not many individuals have a memory that will let them easily call forth all specific and important points of a crime they have witnessed. Your memory is not similar to a camera that you can rewind and play back exactly what happened when you need to.

* Many witnesses you will find have their memory altered by a single reaction, such as fear. The witness may be have a fear of the perpetrator come after them. This unfortunately can cause a witness to withdraw in helping or giving testimony, facts and viable accounts of what happened.

* A witness and their detailed account of what happened may sometimes be missing important parts to the testimony they give. This can be crucial and dire for apprehension of the correct individual. It is very common to fill in gaps of missing information and this may sometimes cause details to be vague or wrong, but not done in a purposeful manner.
